Welcome

Catholic Parish of the West Coast, Tasmania

We endeavour to live out the Gospel and give witness to the message of Christ in a simple practical way.

Mass Centres

Our Mass Centres are located at Queenstown, Rosebery and Zeehan, with Mass being celebrated in the Anglican Church at Strahan.

About us

Each of the towns that are scattered within the parish boundaries are steeped in mining history.

QUEENSTOWN, the largest of the towns on the west coast, is located under the watchful gaze of Mount Owen. It is home to one of Australia's oldest copper mines and the ABT Railway.

STRAHAN is located 41 kilometres south west of Queenstown on Macquarie Harbour. It is a mecca for visitors wanting to cruise the Gordon River or experience the Tasmanian wilderness.

ZEEHAN is located about 38 kilometres north of Queenstown and was once a thriving town but today is barely a shadow of its former glory. It is the home of the historic Gaiety Theatre and has an excellent Mining Museum well worth a visit.

ROSEBERY is located 23 kilomtres north east of Zeehan or 51 kilometres from Queenstown and continues to have a small properous zinc, lead and silver mine.

Just 10 kilomtres further north on the Murchison Highway is the sleepy hamlet of TULLAH the home of the famous steam engine, 'Wee Georgie Wood.'

GORMANSTON and LINDA, now almost deserted, were vibrant small towns, south of Queenstown, that once had a Catholic church, convent and school.
